When Jeff & I returned to the doctor for our 12-week checkup on Baby Scrabble we got to hear the heartbeat. It took the nurse a few minutes to find it. She got off to a slow start because Jeff made me laugh. When she first put the machine on my stomach Jeff said "It sounds like a war zone in there!" It really did sound like some sort of video game. The nurse had to wait for me to stop giggling so she could get to work.
It was so amazing to hear Baby Scrabble's heartbeat. The rate was 160 and our doctor said old wives' tale would indicate it's a girl. She joked, "Girls are higher, boys are slower!"
We thought we'd find out at our next doctor's visit for sure whether Baby Scrabble is a boy or girl but the doctor says she doesn't do that until about 20 weeks. She said at 16 weeks, it's trickier to tell but at 20 weeks she could almost guarantee the result.
Hopefully we'll still know by Christmas. In the meantime, it's fun to keep guessing.
